European Union Will Limit Aircraft Emissions by 2010 to Allow Airbus Time to Comply
Most everyone in aviation knows that the Boeing Airliners are the most efficient in the industry, on Planet Earth. Airbus is the second most efficient airline manufacture of the two major airliner aircraft builders, effectively that means in last place. The European Union wants airliners to pollute less and meet strict standards. Unfortunately, they have to give Airbus some time to design and build an aircraft that can actually meet the true strict criteria that should be.
Once the Airbus Company has an airliner that can meet strict guidelines or about 2010 give or take a year; they will then be able to cash in on the sales made as airline companies are made to comply. Old aircraft maybe banned and the airlines will have to invest in new aircraft. This will provide jobs for aerospace workers in France. Similarly the riots and torching of all cars in France last year were allowed to continue for months on end to provide much needed jobs for French Autoworkers. The Agence France Presse stated:
Oct. 4, 2007 -- A EU parliamentary committee on Oct. 2 called for the European aviation sector to be included in its emissions trading market in 2010. The move brings forward a proposal by the European Commission that the CO2 emissions rules should be imposed on intra-EU flights from 2011 and for flights in and out of the bloc from 2012.
These strict emissions rules for airliners will raise the cost of airliners and that will be passed on to the flying consumer and decrease competition from foreign airlines. How much will a ticket cost in the EU after all these new regulations go into affect? The marketplace will decide, but it what ever it is it will not be cheap. Sincerely, Lance.
